Ingredients

Scale

Cheese

  • 10 Babybel cheese rounds

Coating

  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Finishing

  • Olive oil spray
  • Chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare dipping stations: Set up three separate bowls—one with all-purpose flour, another with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and the last with panko breadcrumbs seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Dry the cheese: Remove Babybel cheese from wrappers and pat each round dry using paper towels to ensure the coating sticks well.
  3. Coat the cheese: Dip each cheese round first into the flour, then into the egg wash, and finally into the seasoned panko breadcrumbs. For an extra crispy crust, repeat dipping in egg wash and panko breadcrumbs once more to create a double coating.
  4. Freeze the coated cheese: Place the breaded Babybel rounds on a tray and freeze for 10 to 15 minutes to help the coating set and prevent melting during frying.
  5. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) and lightly spray the basket with olive oil spray to prevent sticking.
  6. Air fry the cheese: Arrange the cheese rounds in a single layer in the basket. Lightly spray the tops with olive oil spray. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Rest and serve: Let the cheese rounds rest for 1 to 2 minutes after cooking. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing the breaded cheese before air frying is essential to prevent the cheese from melting too quickly and losing shape.
  • Ensure even coating and double dip for maximum crunchiness.
  • Serve immediately for best gooey texture and crispy exterior.
  • Try serving with marinara sauce, ranch, or spicy aioli for dipping.
  • Adjust seasoning in the breadcrumb mixture to taste.
