Bananas Foster:

  • 4 medium bananas
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup dark rum (see notes)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans, optional

For Serving:

  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare Bananas: Peel and slice bananas into thick strips or halves. Set aside.
  2. Caramelize Sugar: Melt butter in a skillet, add brown sugar and cinnamon, whisk until dissolved.
  3. Cook Bananas: Add bananas to skillet, stir until soft.
  4. Add Rum: Pour in rum, cook until caramel thickens. Add vanilla and pecans, stir.
  5. Optional Flambe: Ignite rum in pan (carefully), let alcohol burn off. Add vanilla and pecans.
  6. Serve: Plate bananas with ice cream, drizzle with sauce. Enjoy!
