Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry Base

  • 1 sheet (about 8 oz/225 g) puff pastry, thawed

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 4 oz (113 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Blueberries

  • 1/2 cup (75 g) fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (if using frozen blueberries)

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth any creases. Cut into 6 equal rectangles for individual pastries and set aside.
  3. Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest (if using). Mix until the filling is completely smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble the Pastries: Spread about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each puff pastry rectangle. Toss the blueberries in flour if you’re using frozen berries to prevent excess moisture, then evenly distribute the berries over the cream cheese. Fold the edges of each pastry slightly inward to create a small border.
  5. Apply the Egg Wash: Whisk together the egg and milk in a small bowl. Using a pastry brush, coat the edges of each pastry to encourage golden browning during baking.
  6. Bake: Arrange the prepared pastries on your lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes or until the puff pastry is puffed and deeply golden brown. Let them cool on the tray for a few minutes.
  7. Make the Glaze: While the pastries cool slightly, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon of milk or cream, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Add more milk as needed to reach a drizzling consistency. Drizzle the glaze over the slightly warm pastries before serving.

Notes

  • If using frozen blueberries, tossing them in flour prevents your filling from getting soggy.
  • These pastries are best enjoyed the day they’re made, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days.
  • Feel free to swap blueberries for raspberries, strawberries, or a mix of berries for a different flavor.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened for an ultra-smooth filling.
