Ingredients

Scale

For the hummus:

  • 1 (15 oz) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained (remove skins for extra creaminess)
  • 1/3 cup drippy tahini (or 1/2 cup peanut butter or other nut butter)
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (add 1/2 cup for sweeter hummus)
  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (I use vanilla almond milk, add more as needed to thin)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup mini chocolate chips (dairy-free if desired)

For serving:

  • Berries, crackers, pita chips, or pretzels

Instructions

  1. In a food processor or blender, combine all the hummus ingredients except the chocolate chips. Process until smooth, adding more milk if necessary to achieve the consistency of thick frosting.
  2. Stir in the mini chocolate chips, and sprinkle a few more on top for garnish.
  3. Serve in a bowl, accompanied by berries, crackers, pita chips, pretzels, or graham crackers.
  4. Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to a week.
