Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 package puff pastry (about 17 oz/500g)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Filling

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease each muffin cup or line with paper liners to prevent sticking.
  2. Roll Puff Pastry: Lightly flour a clean flat surface. Unroll puff pastry sheets and gently roll them out to about 1/8-inch thickness if needed.
  3. Mix Cinnamon Sugar Filling: In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt until well mixed.
  4. Brush Butter on Pastry: Using a pastry brush, coat one side of the puff pastry with melted butter evenly.
  5. Sprinkle Filling: Generously sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the buttered side, ensuring even coverage.
  6. Cut and Roll Pastry Strips: Cut the pastry into strips about 2-3 inches wide. Starting from one end, tightly roll each strip into a spiral shape.
  7. Place Rolls in Muffin Tin: Stand each rolled strip upright in the muffin tin, pressing ends gently to secure and create cruffin shapes.
  8. Brush and Sprinkle Topping: Brush the tops of the cruffins with remaining melted butter and sprinkle any leftover cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until cruffins are golden brown and puffed.
  10. Cool: Remove from oven and allow to cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • For an extra flavor boost, add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to the melted butter before brushing.
  • If puff pastry sheets are frozen, thaw completely before use to ensure even rolling and baking.
  • Cruffins are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat gently in a warm oven to regain flakiness before serving.
