These French Dip Biscuits are a delicious twist on the classic French dip sandwich, with tender roast beef, caramelized onions, and melty provolone cheese sandwiched between buttermilk biscuits, served with warm beef consomme for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

For Caramelized Onions:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, halved and thinly sliced

For Biscuits:

  • 1 can (8-count) Southern Homestyle Buttermilk Biscuits
  • 1 pound deli roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, quartered
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) beef consomme
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Caramelize onions: Melt butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until lightly browned and soft, about 15 minutes. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Prepare biscuits: Separate biscuits and place bottoms onto the baking sheet. Divide roast beef and onions over biscuit halves. Top each with provolone cheese and remaining biscuit halves to form sandwiches. Press edges together to seal.
  4. Brush with beaten egg: Brush beaten egg over the tops of the biscuits.
  5. Bake: Bake for 15-17 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Warm consomme: Heat beef consomme in a saucepan over medium heat until warmed through.
  7. Serve: Serve the baked biscuits with warm beef consomme for dipping.
