Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef

Potatoes:

  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

Cream of Mushroom Soup:

  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)

Cheddar Cheese:

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Onion:

  • 1 small onion, diced

Butter:

  • 2 tbsp butter

Salt and Pepper:

  • To taste

Optional Additions:

  • 1 cup frozen peas, carrots, or green beans
  • ¼ cup bacon bits
  • ½ tsp garlic powder or paprika (for seasoning)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté diced onion for 3 minutes until soft. Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Assemble the Casserole: Spread cooked beef evenly in the baking dish. Spoon cream of mushroom soup over the beef and spread it out. Layer potato slices on top, overlapping slightly. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously over the potatoes.
  4. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and cheese is golden and bubbly.
  5. Rest and Serve: Let the casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving to help the layers set.
