Truffle Base
- 1 package Mint Oreo cookies (about 15.25 oz/432g)
- 8 oz (227g) cream cheese, softened
Coating
- 12 oz (340g) white or dark chocolate, melted
- Green food coloring (optional, for white chocolate)
Decoration
- Sprinkles
- Crushed Oreos
- Chocolate drizzle (optional)
- Crush the Oreos: Place the Mint Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until they become fine crumbs. Alternatively, put the Oreos in a sealed plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin until finely ground.
- Mix with Cream Cheese: Transfer the crushed Oreos to a bowl. Add the softened cream cheese and mix thoroughly until the mixture is fully combined and smooth, forming a uniform dough-like texture.
- Shape the Truffles: Roll the Oreo and cream cheese mixture into small balls about 1 inch in diameter. Arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet to prevent sticking.
- Chill: Place the tray in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up the truffles. For an expedited process, freeze them for 15 minutes instead.
- Melt the Chocolate: Melt the white or dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl by heating it in 30-second increments, stirring well after each interval until completely smooth. If using white chocolate, add a few drops of green food coloring and mix to achieve a minty hue.
- Coat the Truffles: Dip each chilled truffle into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Use a fork to lift the truffle out and let any excess chocolate drip off before placing it back on the parchment-lined sheet.
- Decorate: While the chocolate coating is still wet, sprinkle your choice of decorations such as sprinkles, crushed Oreos, or drizzle with additional melted chocolate.
- Chill Again: Return the coated and decorated truffles to the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens completely, about 15–20 minutes.
- Serve and Enjoy: Once set, serve your mint Oreo truffles as a delicious sweet treat to friends and family.
Notes
- Use softened cream cheese for easier mixing and a smoother truffle texture.
- If you prefer a firmer truffle, refrigerate overnight.
- For a different flavor, you can substitute Mint Oreos with regular Oreos and add peppermint extract to the cream cheese mixture.
- Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- To freeze, place truffles in a single layer on a baking sheet; once frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe container for up to a month.
