Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers are a delicious and healthy twist on traditional burgers, replacing the bread bun with hearty cabbage slices. These low-carb, flavorful burgers combine seasoned ground beef with aromatic spices and garlic, baked to perfection and topped with melted cheese for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Cabbage Burgers

  • 1 small head of cabbage (cut into thick slices)
  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg (optional, for binding)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the Cabbage: Slice the cabbage into thick rounds, about ½-inch thick. Brush both sides of each slice with olive oil and arrange them on the lined baking sheet.
  3. Make Burger Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and the optional egg if you want extra binding. Mix thoroughly until ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Assemble the Burgers: Take a handful of the meat mixture and press it firmly onto each cabbage slice, shaping it into a patty that covers the cabbage fully.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cabbage burgers for 25 minutes to cook through.
  6. Add Cheese and Broil: Remove the burgers from the oven, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top of each patty, then switch the oven to broil. Broil the burgers for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and slightly golden.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with fresh parsley or serve alongside sour cream, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy your flavorful and healthier cabbage burgers!

Notes

  • If using ground turkey instead of beef, the burgers may be leaner and less juicy, so consider adding the egg for better binding.
  • To keep the cabbage slices from becoming too soft, slice thickly and avoid overbaking.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese depending on your preference for flavor and meltability.
  • These burgers work great as a low-carb or gluten-free alternative to traditional burgers.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated up to 3 days and reheated gently in the oven or microwave.
