Ingredients

Scale

Bread & Butter

  • 2 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Seafood Mixture

  • 1/4 cup cooked shrimp, chopped
  • 1/4 cup canned crab meat, drained
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Seafood Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, crab meat, fresh parsley, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to blend all flavors and set aside to allow the ingredients to marinate slightly.
  2. Heat the Skillet and Butter the Bread: Place a skillet over medium heat and allow it to warm. Meanwhile, spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread to ensure a crispy, golden crust when cooked.
  3. Assemble the First Layer: Place one slice of the buttered bread, butter side down, onto the preheated skillet. Immediately layer half of the shredded sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the bread to create a melting, cheesy base.
  4. Add Seafood Topping and More Cheese: Evenly spoon the prepared seafood mixture atop the cheese layer on the bread. Then cover the seafood with the remaining shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses to create a gooey, flavorful sandwich filling.
  5. Top and Grill the Sandwich: Place the second slice of bread on top, with the buttered side facing up. Cook the sandwich for about 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom slice turns golden brown and crispy.
  6. Flip and Finish Cooking: Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula, and cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until the other side is also golden brown and the cheese inside has fully melted.
  7. Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet, slice it in half diagonally, and serve immediately while warm and melty.

Notes

  • Make sure the skillet is properly heated to achieve a crispy golden crust without burning the bread.
  • You can substitute sourdough with your preferred sturdy bread like ciabatta or multigrain for variation.
  • Use fresh cooked shrimp if available for better texture and flavor.
  • To avoid a soggy sandwich, drain the crab meat thoroughly.
  • Adding a pinch of smoked paprika or a dash of hot sauce to the seafood mixture can add a spicy kick.
  • Serve with a light salad or tomato soup for a complete meal.
