Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare the pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the melted butter evenly in a 9×13 inch baking pan to coat the bottom thoroughly.
  2. Make the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the whole milk, vanilla extract, and sugar until combined. Gradually add the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk just until the batter comes together without overmixing.
  3. Layer the batter: Carefully spoon the batter over the melted butter in the baking pan. Avoid stirring or mixing with the butter to allow layers to form.
  4. Add the brown sugar: Evenly sprinkle the packed brown sugar over the batter layer in the pan.
  5. Pour hot water: Slowly pour the hot water over the batter and brown sugar layer, taking care not to stir. The water will help create a gooey, syrupy layer during baking.
  6. Bake the cobbler: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cobbler is golden brown on top and mostly set in the middle.
  7. Prepare topping and serve: Mix the 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon together for the topping. Sprinkle this cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the hot cobbler as soon as it comes out of the oven. Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Do not stir or mix the batter after adding it to the butter in the pan to ensure distinct layers.
  • Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent dessert.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently before serving.
  • You can substitute whole milk with 2% milk for a lighter version, but the richness will be slightly reduced.
